Mobile Phone Upgrades : Learn

How does the phone Upgrade system work ?
When you initially purchase your first mobile phone on a monthly contract the price of the phone is heavily subsidised by the Network and Dealer. This fact is taken into consideration by the Network when they decide if it is possible for you to upgrade your mobile phone. You will have to satisfy certain criteria which mainly concern the length of time you have already been with your Network and your approximate monthly bill. They use a sliding scale to calculate if you need to pay an upgrade fee and approximately how much this fee will be.

How do you decide if upgrading is suitable for you ?
As mobile phone technology improves and new and more sophisticated models are released on to the market you may decide that you want to change your mobile phone sooner than you had anticipated. Upgrading your mobile phone allows you the opportunity to keep your existing number without having to buy a new SIM Free handset. Upgrading your phone is far cheaper than buying a SIM Free phone.

Advantages:
ability to choose from the latest phones on the market;
keep your original phone number;
cheaper than buying a SIM Free phone

Disadvantages:
discount not as much as when you bought your first phone;
you may have to pay an upgrade fee

Summary
The most cost effective way of changing your old mobile phone for a more up to date phone is by 'Upgrading'. The fee for upgrading reduces substantially after the first 12 months.
